What is Protolith 2025?

Protolith 2025 is the premier Student Scientific Symposium for Earth Sciences, hosted biennially by the Department of Earth Sciences, IIT Bombay. This event brings together bright young minds and budding researchers from across India to share insights, present their work, and foster collaboration in the dynamic field of Earth Sciences.

Who can attend Protolith 2025?

Students currently enrolled in postgraduate or PhD programs in Earth Sciences are eligible to participate in Protolith 2025. Unfortunately, undergraduate students are not eligible to take part.

What are the key dates for the event (e.g., registration, event schedule)?

Protolith 2025 will take place from 21st to 23rd March 2025. Registrations are expected to open on 15th February 2025, and the detailed event schedule will be shared with registered participants closer to the event.

Where will Protolith 2025 be held?

Protolith 2025 will be hosted at the Department of Earth Sciences, IIT Bombay.

How can I register for Protolith 2025?

Registration for Protolith 2025 will tentatively begin from 15th February and will be conducted through a contingent leader system:

  1. Appointing a Contingent Leader : Each participating institute must appoint a contingent leader. The contingent leader will act as the primary point of contact between the institute and the organizing committee.
  2. Collective Registration : The contingent leader will register all interested participants from their institute during the registration period. A maximum of 15 students per institute can participate, with a registration fee of ₹350 per student.
  3. Verification Letter : The contingent leader must provide a letter from the Head of their department confirming that all listed participants are bona fide students of the institute. A template for this letter will be provided to the contingent leaders.
  4. Seats will be filled zone wise- North, South, East, West, and Central. Once a particular zones seats are filled, registrations for that zone will be on hold until there are vacancies.

Note: Only students whose names are submitted by the contingent leader will be eligible for registration.

Does Protolith 2025 provide travel grants or financial aid for participants?

No, Protolith 2025 does not offer travel grants or financial aid for participants. All expenses related to travel must be borne by the participants. All registration fees paid are non-refundable.

Are accommodations provided for participants?

Yes, accommodations will be arranged for participants on the IIT Bombay campus. Details regarding the allotted accommodations, including check-in and check-out times, will be shared with registered participants closer to the event date. All registration fees paid are non-refundable.
